Teens in Crisis
Redeeming A Generation

June 6, 2009 was beginning of great things to come in the building of stronger bonds between parents and teens - families and communities.

The one-day youth empowerment summit provided a forum that fostered a 2-way dialogue between metro Atlanta middle and high school students and their parents, guardians and mentors. “The summit is designed based upon the premise that it takes a village to raise a child,” says Chelsealya Payne, founder of PAYNE and Glory.  “Our intent is to provide an environment where the youth can speak candidly about what they experience, and we as adults can understand first-hand what they’re going through.  We feel strongly that if we restore the village that raised us, we can challenge, motivate and inspire our future leaders to achieve the level of greatness that we know is in them.”

Attendees participated in hands-on workshops led by members of the

Atlanta community and learned relationship and communication skills that will re-engage and empower young people to lead education and prevention initiatives that our youth face.  The summit also included:

·   A Roundtable Discussion between youth leaders and their peers to discuss their concerns and the issues they face, and how we as parents, mentors and educators can best support them – from their point of view.

·   Interactive workshops including a hands-on forum, providing mothers and daughters with the tools to engage in healthy, proactive, and an in depth conversation between young men on the importance of male relationships, whether they be friends, fathers, uncles or brothers

An Interactive Panel Discussion with adult and youth community leaders to summarize and discuss moving forward, and share the resources available.

As follow up to an overwhelmingly successful youth empowerment summit in July, 2009, Teens In Crisis will continue the discussion between youth and adults, allowing them to re-engage the community and collectively empower young people to lead education and prevention initiatives that address the issues that concern them most.
